Aberdeen 1995 - 1999

I continued to lecture at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen, becoming more and more embroiled in institutional procedures. It became harder to focus on my painting or have the energy to persevere when things got tough. I battled on and made work in spurts. Most notable were "laughing boys' which won the Guthrie Prize at the Royal Scottish Academy and 'Self Frank and Joyce', a runner up at the Morrison Portrait Award. Towards the end of my time at Grays things became intolerable working under an awful head of school who appointed me head of First Year Studies in 1998. This put an end to me making any art for a while.
